Grow your own salad box

Ready Steady Grow recently gave out planter boxes, seeds and compost to residents, in the heart of Pollokshields. Check out our film showing how to sow and grow edible green leaves in a box, you could put on your window sill or in your back court.

Growing kits for Pollokshields residents

We will be giving away growing kits on the corner of Leslie Street and Keir Street, in Pollokshields East, on Saturday 4 July between 11am and 1. If you can prove you live in Pollokshields, by bringing along a bill addressed to you, you can pick up a growing kit which includes a window box, a trowel, compost and seeds. It is everything you need to get started.

The seeds packets we have to give away include: salad leaves, dill, basil, rocket, peas and coriander. For some of our younger residents, we have smaller colourful containers which can be used to grow cress in.

This is also an opportunity to meet Pollokshields Space Force who will be working on the Leslie Street greenspaces (can be found on the intersects with: Forth Street, Keir Street and Herriet Street). Come and say hello and find out more about what they do and how you can join in their mission to improve Pollokshields outside space.

We have 200 growing kits to give away to Pollokshields residents. This project is funded by Glasgow City Council area committee and delivered by Ready Steady Grow. We know everyone was looking forward to the outside summer celebration normally put on by Ready Steady Grow in June. Although sadly we are unable to gather residents together, we are pleased to be able to give away these kits, so you can enjoy 'growing your own' inside by a sunny window or outside on a window ledge or backcourt.
